Aston modeling his Stella McCartney for Gap Kids Military jacket:)
A Few New Aston Phrases and Funnies:
- One night Mei was crying while we were trying to get her to bed. Aston had been in bed for 45 minutes or so. All of the sudden we hear Aston over the monitor singing “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” because he knows that calms her down when she’s sad:) He does this in the car too when she gets really upset…
- “What's going on here guys” when he came downstairs from nap to see Daddy playing with Stelly
- I told him we were going to gymnastics last Friday and he lit up exclaiming “gymnastics Mommy? Not school! Yeah!”
- “Mommy whatcha doin’? Hanging out with Meims?”
- “No bed Mommy, I busy playing cars”
- Makes up new names daily for family and friends like “Babi” for Babs and “Beebs” for BB
- “No thanks I'm fine”
- Along with singing twinkle twinkle when Mei gets upset in the car he will say “It's ok mei mei. Come here let me hold you. Almost home mei.”
- If we ask him if he hurt himself he will say “My ok. My feel better” (gets My and I mixed up sometimes:))
- We walk down to Blakeney and get Smoothies from Smoothie King…Aston calls them “fooovies”
- Went uptown with BB and Babs and said “yoook! downtown” when they asked him how he knew it was downtown he said “I recognize those buildings”…ha!
- “No way man”
- “Oh my gosh that’s awesome”
- “Diesel truck is going to the grocery store…diesel truck also going to the Y”
- “Hey babes”…when he says hi to Stell
- “Remember when” says this when he recalls events that happened recently in his life…think its so funny
- “No, not scared or not scary” when things are scary:)
- “Where'd we get that?” or “how come I get that?” he says to inquire about a toy he recently acquired
- “That man happy?” he asks every time he senses conflict or is scared from a TV show/movie
New Chinese Words:
Have to ask BB about this one. I have done nothing with him to encourage his Chinese lately…makes me sad. Plan is to instill a Rossetta Stone program starting after the holidays…yup hold me to it.
New Favorite Foods:
Not really anything new but has been eating very well lately.
Rascal Traits:
- Still says “mine” and “now!”
- It’s an all out FIGHT to get him to nap or got to bed at night. Don’t think it’s a situation where he is ready to give up naps (heck I hope not)…just another way he’s showing us he wants to be the boss of the house take
- I am now having to bribe him to get into the car/carseat. He will stiff arm me and kick and scream…saying he wants to do it himself and then never get in his seat. Bribes include candy corn, gummies, granola bars…also threaten to take away his favorite car of the day away.
- Hits his sister…is just all out rough with her. It’s interesting though because we are fairly comfortable leaving the 2 of them together in a room by themselves. He seems to only torment her when we are in the room…an attention seeking behavior maybe?
Other Notables this Month:
- Potty training! Aston has been totally ready for me to pull the diapers from the shelf completely for months now. I have been holding him back for a number of reasons like his doctor was adamant that I wait at least until he is 2.5 years old and I just don’t want to have to think about it when we are out and about. I really know it’s time now though because the poor kid will not go in his diaper at school or if we go out for a long period of time. He also is holding it through naptime most of the time. He will ask me when he’s out “Mommy? I go pee pee in the potty at Mommies house?” The plan is to pull the trigger at Christmas time and get his teachers on board then. He will be almost 2 and a half then.
- There was a period of time last month when he would sneak and stand up to pee. He saw Jeff do it and thought that’s what he should do. Now…I’m not exactly sure when I am supposed to support this but I’m not ready for it now…I mean it’s a mess I can’t deal with. I told him little boys sit down.
- Saves treats. If he gets a lollipop or a gummy bear he will really make it last…suck on them forEVER…not great for his teeth but at least he understands it’s a special event when he gets these treats:)
Turning things upside down with Wo Wo…
Here’s the video:
Aston’s favorite home activity (other than “playing cars”) is sliding down his slide…he goes backwards, forwards sideways, headfirst, with blankets under him to go faster…he even sets up pillows at the bottom so he can plow through them…all the while his sister laughs like crazy encouraging him even more.
Saturday morning hanging out with Mei in Mommy’s bed
After our Greenway walk last weekend…following Babs to the Mexican' restaurant…notice the same swagger:)
Having Wednesday morning snack with BFF Kate…Yes Kate is wearing his clothes…even his Thomas undies:)
Greenway walk last weekend: we walked from Trader Joe’s on Rea Road to the Johnston Road entrance (1.8 miles each way)…we walked briskly! It was beautiful and the kiddos loved just being outside and watching all the people and dogs going by. We got the idea from Brooke and her blog!

HA! Those buns! Love them! love these updates and feel insanely guilty for not doing them for Griff. He'll get 10 extra hugs tomorrow instead. :) Was just telling my sister-in-law about that oh-so-cute Stella Mc. jacket today -- Aston rocks it. Great post, Kate. You're an awesome mama.
greenway walk looks awesome! you'll have to tell me where that is. love the stella collection! i was going to get jacob some from that line but they were all size 2T and up and he can't wear 2T yet, bummer. love how aston tries to comfort his sister. so sweet. that is so awesome about the potty training. i think i need to get the small potty for jacob because he won't sit on the big potty anymore. btw jacob has those rain boots too!
seriously - boots and buns pic is THE BEST EVER. i mean seriously. um the jacket is FABULOUS and am so glad emi's not the only one who give me the stiff arm/arched back maneuveur when getting in to the carseat. horrific. so jealous about the potty-ing... of course have done nothing about it. and the jacket is TO DIE FOR!!!! Scrumptious little man - could just eat him up!
glad you're still doing this! love the jacket of course. greenway...gotta do it. we have the same car seat issues as you know. love top of slide pic and one with jeff and the kids and stelly in a bow :) love all the funny phrases.
