Jeff ran in the 31st annual Alston & Bird Corporate Cup last weekend. He was the anchor man for a 3 person 1/2 marathon relay. They organized 3 teams within the office and of course they bickered and trash-talked for weeks leading up. The teams they put together were supposed to be equally weighted so there could be some hefty and healthy competition brewing around the event. Jeff ran his 5 mile leg in just under 40 minutes. I was MORE than impressed that a man who never ran more than 2 miles before 2 weeks leading up to the race banged out sub-8 minute miles...and that time included a high five for Aston at mile 2 and a shoe tie at mile 3:) Way to go Daddy! (Side note: when Aston, Stell and I were driving to BB and Babs house to watch the race Aston saw a black Mustang with race stripes pass by us. He said "Mommy that car racing with Daddy? Daddy's racing a red Mustang, i tink...he is...yes?" so clearly he didn't understand that Daddy was about to be in a running race:)) So I set him straight.
Aston, Stell, BB, Babs and I waited on Queens Road at mile 2 right outside BB and Bab's house for the 3 relay anchors from the office to run by. Daddy came by first (Ryan gave him a good head start)! He high 5'd Aston, posed for some shots and kept on truckin':
After Aston realized Daddy wasn't stopping to join us he started running after Jeff on the sidewalk as fast as he could saying "Daddy wait! I have my racing shoes on!" (we just bought him new Vans with a black and white check pattern on them that resembles a race flag...a car race flag that is:))...see photo on the right:
Chuck ran by us just over 3 minutes later (per info the camera recorded:)). He's, by far, the oldest but fastest in the group (under 6.5min miles). He caught up to Jeff less than 2 miles later:)
Here's JD (Jon Davis). He ran by us 1.5 minutes after Chuck (again per camera timestamp). He was looking awesome in those gloves. He managed to close the gap on Jeff but still didn't beat the "Male Muffin Tops" (you got it, that was Jeff, Ryan and Stephen's team name:))
After the guys ran by, Daddy's cheering squad took a walk around the block and then back to BB's house for some Thomas the Train riding. Stell's first time riding solo!
Jeff came back to BB's house, picked me up and we meet up with all the team members at Big Daddy's Burger Bar:) Here's a shot of the 5k-ers. Stephen, Scott and Emily all ran the first 3.1 miles to kick the teams off.
Ryan's missing unfortunately but here are most of the runners. JD, Bryan, Stephan, Scott, Emily, Dawn, Chuck, and Jeff. I'm so proud:)
Mark and Mia joined us for some drinks at Big Daddy's too. Mark was 'supposed' to run too but he had Mia for the weekend so Ryan jumped in for him. I snapped a shot of them as they were off to Freedom Park for outside fun:
