Gram & Chuck's Visit + The Ryder Cup

Gram and Chuck came to visit on Friday to stay over just one night. They were on their way to Seneca, SC to go to a 90th birthday party for Chuck's dental school mentor...yikes!...really puts Aston's 14 months in prospective! I think they were half way through their lunch when Aston came down from his nap. I put him down and he went straight to Chuck (Chuck was his new best friend the whole time they were here:).

Chuck, Gram, Aston and I went on a walk through the Fountain's Shopping center shortly after lunch. We were on an ice cream mission (it was Chuck's idea...really)! We ended up at Palone's Pizza and come to find out they have gelato...not the best gelato...but it did the trick:) That night we went to BB and Babs for dinner...pizza in the pizza oven, lamb chops, corn on the cobb, crab cakes and fruit...yum as always...Aston walked in and did his signature "mmmmmmm" when he saw all the food...cracks me up every time!

Saturday morning Jeff and I packed for the Ryder Cup. We had that excited but NOT feeling that we were leaving Asty for 2 days. We left for the airport at 8:30am and Aston stayed with Gram and Chuck until 11:30am until BB and Babs picked him up and took over Asty duties until Monday morning (we actually returned on Sunday night just thought it would be better to leave him asleep than to disturb him on a school night:)) All grandparent reports say he was as perfect as can be:) I challenge them to comment and tell us all what really happened:)

Meanwhile, Jeff and I were off to the Ryder Cup. We started off by running into Regina and her friend Molly at the Louisville airport...what a coincidence! We were arriving and they were departing! Next we haggled with Hertz to give us our car early without charging us for 2 days...it worked...we got ourselves a stunning Hyundai, Tucson...but it did the trick...even held up through the shaking and the check engine light! From there we tried to give ourselves a self-guided Louisville art tour. Lets just say we needed a tour guide:) But we did find the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. They had a Julius Friedman exhibit that was excellent (photography done on aluminium and other fun media)...we are looking into buying some pieces on exhibit. For dinner we went to Limestone recommended by BB, Babs and Regina...it was pretty tasty...plus Uncle Jay and Aunt Wooks joined us (they were at the tourney all day Saturday so they gave us major tips for our experience the following day).

Sunday morning we woke up and rushed out with Ryder Cup details in hand. We had our whole day mapped out thanks to Wook and Jay. We arrive at the course by 10 am, rushed to the merchandise tent, bought some stuff, then off to the VIP tent for some breakfast (I was starving!). We refueled and found our way to hole #1 where we were able to grab some excellent seats to watch the players get introduced and hit some balls on the range right in front of us. Sat next to some British people so it was good fun listening to the trash talk! After 45 minutes of that it was off to Hole #4 where we met Hal, a guy we came to find out lives in Charlotte and whose daughter lives in Firethorne but we've never met. On Hole #13 we caught lots of action we ended up staying in that area for a couple hours until our stomachs called us back to the tent. The tent was on 17/18 so we caught the few pairs that made it that far on Sunday...then a mad rush back to the airport...we got out just before the rush so it took us a lot less time than we thought to get to the airport...Jeff was happy because we had time catch the remainder of the Jags game (they won...which made for a better flight home for me...YES!)

In the words of Babs...a big thanks to a dear anonymous family friend for the Ryder Cup tickets and the accommodations, she's young at heart...if not in age, you know who you are and we all appreciate your great generosity!
