Kiawah 2008

Kate, Asty, BB, Babs, and I all went down to Kiawah, SC for Labor Day weekend for a little beach and golf time. It was pretty darn humid out there and the mosquitoes were really hungry...I think each of us are still itching a couple hundred bites, even poor Aston. That first day was also his first beach experience and while initially he loved running in the sand with his wagon (which we brought because it came highly recommended from Kate's friend Anne), knocking down other kid's sand castles, eating the sand, and drinking the warm salty sea water, it didn't last very long...45 minutes later, we were rinsing him off (his favorite part...dancing in the outdoor shower) and heading in...so much for a weekend at the beach.
Later on, BB and Babs graciously watched after Aston while Kate and I got to go shopping in Charleston. We also got to stay in town later for a non-Asty dinner at Oak Steakhouse, which came highly recommended from the store owner of Biton (the place we like to shop), and it turned out to be really really awesome, best steak, lobster macaroni, roasted beets, and berry cobbler we've had.
Babs and I got to play golf twice and other than all of the additional mosquito bites we got on the course, I managed rounds of 75 and 88 at Turtle Point and the Ocean Course. Kate and BB attempted to take Aston on a bike ride, which we all assumed he'd love, but it turned out to be an absolute nightmare...it was probably the combination of an uncomfortable, sandy, salty, crusty bike trailer, and all of the bug bites that ruined the ride...they couldn't even bike back and had to call a van to pick them up and bring them back to the condo.
All in all, it was a very nice quick trip for all of us, thank you BB and Babs, and I'm sure we will be back down there soon when Asty's bigger and when he might appreciate the beach life a bit more.
