Thanksgiving at Pop's Lodge '08
Between the tractor rides and the Thomas the Train set at Pop's house, Aston forgave us for the 7 hour car ride! We arrived Tuesday Night at 1:30 am to find Pop and Holly (the labradoodle) awaiting our arrival. We arranged this late night driving schedule to workaround when Aston may sleep the longest. It worked pretty well...he slept 4 of the 7 hours. On Wednesday Pop took us to Courtney's...a greasy spoon seafood restaurant...it was YUM! We had fried oysters, fried fish, fried other stuff...and salad bar to make us feel better about the fried:) Thursday was of course Turkey Day. Megan came in the morning with her friend Edgar. They brought some foods, Jeff made the Turkey and Pop and I did the busy work...all we are really good at:) Roberta had prepared some butternut squash soup, the stuffing and a pie (that her chef friend had baked). Aston didn't touch the Thanksgiving meal. He may have had a bite of Aunt Megan's rice dish and that is it! This is when we started to realize he may really be sick. Jeff had started a cold before the trip that worsened as the days went on. Poor guys...Aston is getting about 4 teeth at once which may have caused his on and off again fevers throughout the week:( For Thanksgiving late night fun...Megan, Edgar and I played a couple friendly games of scrabble. Jeff crushed us the first go around and I made a grand slam the on the second...I guess we are just older and wiser:) The Tabaka's arrived on Friday...the kids had fun running around outside and down on the new pier...it's a wonder we didn't loose anyone to the Chesapeake Bay! Aston would only wear Pop's hat and only after Pop put his own hat on...the enormous hat was way too cute...I must say! Big A was a grump for most of the day due to not feeling his bestest:( If it weren't for Pop's BIG tractors we would have had a rough few days! We had to see the tractors at least 2x an hour. At night we had to go say goodnight to the tractors and tell him they were sleeping now...so we didn't need to make ten trips to the garage after dinner! We left that night at 5:20 to attempt the ride back home. Aston was feverish the whole way but slept for the most part...poor guy was sleep talking every few minutes...sometimes saying "mama"...sometimes "woof woof" (for his puppy blanky)...but most of the time saying "brrrrm brrrrm BRRRRM"...we couldn't help but laugh:)
