20 Month Milestone Minutes

After "Muffins with Mommies" we did a little 20 month 'Risky Business' photo shoot...the ones where he is sitting are of him blogging (Kate + Emi's sites are among the favs).
New Words:

Here are some:
Sit, seats, Aston (not just “Aaadie”),Gram (“Bam”), cake (sounds just like his “Kate”), Mustang (“madambaz” or “dambaz” for short), wheee, lights, spin, work, home, door, on, off, yes (sas), water (wa-wa), warm, home, help me, wheel, smoke (as in what comes out of daddy’s exhaust pipes in the morning), Nay(horse), blue, yellow, orange, bike, go, doctors, Lamborghini (“dindini”), wash (not sure where he learned this but when he’s allowed to have his paci, he’ll periodically take it out of his mouth and have us wash it for him before he wants to suck on it again)
New Favorite Foods:
Not much…still not eating this month…maybe Cheese Nips (“nits”)?
Rascal Traits:
- We now are heavy into the “no’s”. Says “no, no, no” to everything or will say “yes” then you give him what he asked for and if it’s delivered in the wrong way then you get a vigorous shake of the head an earful of “no’s!”
-As soon as he sees me heading in the direction of the Kleenex box or the diaper bin he takes off in the other direction and wants me to “chase” him…he is way faster than me now…so it takes me 2x as long to grab him
- he’s got a temporary issue (hopefully) with separation anxiety, which started ever since we left for Karin’s 40th birthday weekend (a couple weeks ago)…when Jeff leaves, or when I leave individually/together he gets VERY worried…even when we leave him at BB and Babs…
-he’s becoming more and more of a daredevil…one notable incident was right before bedtime and he was riding on his silver Audi (his mini Daddy’s car) and decided it was a good idea to take his hands off the steering wheel and stand up on his seat raising his hands over his head (like “look mom, no hands”)…Jeff and I watched him and told him to sit down b/c it was very dangerous…he looks at us like we’re crazy and he knows what he’s doing, then BANG!!! He falls off backwards and hits his head on the cabinets falling on top of his toy Hummer…silence…we think he’s knocked himself out cold, but as we walk over to look at him, his beady eyes are looking around for us…he doesn’t say a peep…no tears, no crying, he gets up and we proceed to go upstairs for his bedtime rituals…weird, but we really thought he was a goner…
Other Notables this Month:
-loves blogging of course (get Kate and now Emi requests many times daily)
-still LOVES playing chase (hiding in my hanging clothes in our closet)
-Aston wakes up many mornings now and says “nat-nat?” (gymnastics) then asks for “shoes?”…every time we get in the car he says the same thing…wondering and hoping for our destination to be gymnastics…wish he did the same for school:(
-bites crackers into shapes…says “brrrm brrrrm” then takes another bite and says “boat?”…getting a big ol’ imagination I suppose.
-He will count everything he can…but only knows the number 2, so what should be “1,2,3” is “2,2,2”…
-just starting to verbalize colors…he does blue, yellow and orange fairly well.
-Fork and spoon use is still cave-man style but he now insists “Aston” do it…so I can no longer feed him his yogurt in the morning:( Really this just means food everywhere, he eats even less, we ruin lots of clothes and it all takes 2x as long!
-Talks about himself in the 3rd person…which gives him the power to say such things as “Aston” do it (implied)…so then everything we did for him in 2 seconds now needs to be done by ‘Aston’ not Mommy or Daddy.
-Reads books/newspaper/magazines/receipts by holding with one hand and using the free finger to skim along the words …all while talking gibberish …need to video this one…really funny (been doing this since 17ish months but always forget to include!)
-Best of all…our new bedtime routine is now 1) Jeff holds Aston and hides by the stairs then they jump out and say boo to scare me. 2) Jeff carries him upstairs while I ‘chase’ him and tickle whatever body part I can get to. 3) Give vitamins/brush teeth. 4) Daddy and Aston scare Mommy again by hiding in his closet while I rinse his toothbrush. 5) Tuck him in and sing ‘rock-a-bye’ 1x and then say ‘1 more time?’ he says “sas” (for yes) and we sing. 6) We walk out saying ‘I LOOOOVE YOUUUU’ and as we are walking downstairs we hear him singing ‘I luuuuuh oooh’ and we melt

love ALL the new words...and the fun bedtime games...especially I love you when you leave his room!
Kate, Aston has your "clean" jeans re: the paci. You always wanted to wash your hands and change your clothes!
When you were upset with us you would put your favorite doll in the toilet! love, Bam

I might also be guilty of washing his paci every time it drops (on the part that goes in his mouth) before his nap naps - but haven't done it for a while. It just goes to show how babies retain things in their memories. BB
