Aston’s 25 Month Milestone Minutes

Aston loves his sister more than anything…she may even rival cars! He is always in her space:)  She actually seems to really enjoy him around as long as he’s not hurting her in anyway.  She smiles big when she watches her brother do silly dances, sing Twinkle Twinkle and she even pretends to be interested when he shows her his cars:)

A Few New Aston Phrases and Funnies:

• “I put daddy’s flip flops on…Mommy try it?”
• “Mommy look…that bumby’s (bunny’s) cute” (meaning the one outside his breakfast window)
• “PU milk” (I accidently gave him expired milk )
• “Oh Meis…so cute…Mei Mei” (says this sometimes when he hugs and kisses her)
• “Mommy happy? Ohhh yes!?” (says this when I give him a look because he’s done something bad…as if to convince me that I am happy not mad)
• “That’s Awesome!”/”So Cool” (usually in reference to some kind of automobile)
• “I ok”, “I all better” (when we ask him if he feels ok or if anything hurts from a bad fall)
• “No more cars, mommy go!” or “It’s green! Go Mommy!” (he’s my little back seat driver)
• “Clouds blow away, blue sky up dere”
• “Mei, what are you doing…you silly goose!”

New Chinese Words:

I now have to ask for BB’s help to keep track of Aston’s Chinese proficiency. So the below is written by her…just safer that way…I will mess it up. She writes in the way we pronounce things in English so it makes sense phonetically. He is surpassing me with his Chinese…I really want Rosetta Stone ASAP…I think I will embrace it, learn it and stick with it…a certain someone thinks otherwise and it’s no cheap buy so I guess I need to prove my dedication somehow:)

• Yao, xiè xiè (pronounced like ‘shèh shèh’) (I would like, thank you)
• Hai yao, xiè xiè (I'd like more, thank you)
• Bu yao, xiè xiè (I don't want, thank you)
• Gen wo lai (come with me) - Kai Lan always says this on the cartoon so I repeat it with him
• Shee Gua (watermelon)
• Huan Gua (cucumber)
• Shion Gua (fragrant melon; e.g. honeydew, cantaloupe, etc)
• Bing bong (popsicle)
• He sings The Little Rabbit song with BB

New Favorite Foods:
Zucchini sticks from Yama, pancakes, applesauce, Jeff’s homemade pizza, lollipops, popsicles

Rascal Traits:

There are a lot of frustrating moments. As with any 2 year old Aston pushes limits, is increasingly demanding, requires more and more discipline, and burdens us hourly with his independence…at the end of the day he is a normal 2 year old…the challenge is to be the very best parental force against his “rascalness'” so that this stage sees as little life as possible! I just really wish he wouldn’t wake up his sister EVERYTIME she starts to fall asleep!

Other Notables this Month:

• Started potty training and is doing pretty well…as long as we are at home and he is naked:)
• Aston can count to 14ish in English but always skips 4 and 13. Maybe he knows 4 is unlucky in Chinese and 13 is unlucky in English?
• Aston can sing most of the ABC’s…he usually forgets the EFG part…and gets mad if I sing it too much with him…he really doesn’t want much to do with ABC’s yet
• He knows colors pretty well now…I would say he is 75% correct now…as long as he is fully concentrating, he can usually get the basics correct
• All his cars go someplace…he will line up all his cars and have a destination for each. Usually the locations are BB’s house, the Y, yoga, Target and the pool
• Orders his meals at restaurants…he raises his hand and usually tells the waiter/waitress what he wants for dinner…he usually says chicken or hot dogs:)
• Climbed out of bed for the first time on 8/16/09. I guess this means we need to move him to a big boy bed? We haven’t acknowledged the fact that he got out in front of him…I just acted dumb and glossed over it. He hasn’t done it since so maybe he won’t?
• Wants to take himself out of the carseat and car w/o us carrying him
• New interest in catching and throwing balls
• Sings Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Itsy bitsy Spider
• He’s working hard on his left and rights…he will say “that truck left?” if a truck turns in front of us…50% of the time he is correct…ha!...at least he is trying!
• Calls his sister “Meis”, “Meims”, “Mei Meio”
