1st Day of School

Here are some outtakes from the "back to school" photo shoot yesterday. Aston was more than thrilled to start back at Sharon Pres. He was so excited because he learned last week at orientation that now that he's in the 3 year old class, he can go on the "big kid" playground. I think it's a status thing with him:)

Mei was less than enthused. She looks good and happy here but that's just because she hadn't realize where we were yet. Can you believe she has her own big-girl blue school bag? She really is so proud of it...mostly because her crazy big brother has had one for a while now so she thinks it's cool. Aston's sillies are indicative of his excitement...

The mom shot...yes...mom is always in workout clothes...I wanted to get fancy for this special day but would've had to change for yoga anyway:(

The dad shot...Mei's over it and Aston's fake smile is coming out...time for a scenery change...

Mei just realized where she was:) She remembered this red door from orientation:)

Then the Willette's showed up! Thank goodness for the distraction!

Here's how the drop off went...all three of us (jeff left for a meeting after the "shoot") walked into Aston's building to drop him off...he was in his classroom before Stell and I were even through the front doors of the building...so no problemo there. Stell was, by that time, clawing at me as if she wanted to tuck herself down my shirt...she just knew what was about to go down. As soon as we approached her building she lost it. The drop off and pick up policy for toddlers is that #1, we can't partake in carpool instead we need to go in to drop and retrieve our kiddos and #2, once you are in the building you need to wait outside the classroom until the teachers open the doors for both drop off and pick up. This makes total sense to me. It's the hand off that sets the kids into a tissy so they try to mediate that by getting a bunch of kids in the gym area with their moms and then they can all run into the class together and at pick up the remaining kiddos don't get sad seeing other moms coming to pick up other kids.

Well for the first day none of this mattered. Everybody was screaming and clinging to their Mommies, Stell included...and in case you were wondering Aston was worse, here's the post on his 1st day as a toddler. I picked up Mei at 11:15 (the toddlers have a 2 week ease in period before they can go the full 9:25 to 12:50pm). When she saw me at pick up she started crying:( Both Ms. Staci and Ms. Stephanie assured me she was fine for most of the time but she did loose it when she saw her brother on the playground and couldn't get to him. She was on the little people playground and he was on the big kid one and they could see each other through a spit rail fence:( Ms. Stephanie told me Aston was doing everything in his power to cheer her up...making monster noises...singing...dancing...funny faces...Mei you are so lucky to have such a cool big brother...

then later Stell and I picked up Asty in the carpool line. He was delivered to the car by Mrs. Gabrielle, one of his new teachers this year. He's GLOWING in the below photo because he's so proud that he was the first in the class to bring home the "My Favorite's" bag (the green bag behind the blue one). I guess they must go alphabetically? When a student brings home the bag they are to return to school with the bag filled with the following: 2 of "my favorite" photos (one a family photo), 1 favorite stuffed animal and 1 favorite book. It's a cool way to do show and tell without all 14 kiddos bringing in gosh knows what to share with the class.

The whole way home Aston was mister chatter box...he was telling me all about who and what he played with...the cool beaded bracelets they made...how they get out their own lunch boxes now...and much more that I'm forgetting...but most importantly as we were pulling home in the driveway he said "Mom...I have old friends and new friends now. My best new friend is Madison" I told him how lucky he is to have those "old friends"...he said "i know! they aren't like old milk...they don't go in the garbage:)"

Love the documentation of the 1st day of school. Great pics, especially the two of Mei bawling and Asty, first smiling, then a bewildered look like he doesn't know what to do. So sweet that he tried to cheer her up at playtime.

P.S. How insightful of Aston to make the comment about old friends not being like old milk. That statement is a keeper!

WOW - amazing post!! What a big day! I'm so glad that Aston LOVED being back and being in his new class (and so clever about the milk association...so cute!) Love that he got the bag first -- and just read that post, LOVE the pic of all the kids that went in :)...I'm sure it made Kate and Mia feel really special too. :) And, couldn't get over the story about this dog! Had no idea that he and Griff were so similar there. :) Can't believe the emotion you were able to cover (in pics) w/ Stellyn...happy, sad/desperate, etc.. She will come to love it, I know. And, Aston is such an amazing brother for trying to cheer her up. What a rock star he is. Love that school...so glad the kids are all back there again!

PS Meant to add that I love the Kate and Aston pics too. The B&W is my favorite. They look so much older...just shows how much they are growing up! :)

oh my goodness, love how sweet and supportive big brother was on the playground. hopefully stellyn's already settling in more this week. also love how the first day of preschool was a family affair--go dad for making it there. great pics of the two best buds, aston and kate. they are so cute together. once again, another great job of documenting the milestones. i swear, i have a hard enough time getting my photos all ready to post, let alone actually writing something about them! :)
and i guess it's a good thing that our kids will remember us spending our daily lives always in workout clothes, right?
