Aston l.o.v.e.s LEGO projects...but the ones he likes to pick out are usually like ages 8 & up:) Jeff is normally the LEGO project liaison but this time I decided I wanted to get elbow deep in 800 pieces and parts. This particular one would eventually create a yellow jeep with all the characters from Toy Story III.
The bonding time was priceless...it was 4 1 hour nightly sessions of pure Aston and Mommy time...
No matter how interesting the project, Aston always reserves time for "loafin'" and "goof ballin'" around...
I would read the instructions...
and he would find me the parts I needed...
and eventually we created this...
It may not look like much...
but there really are like 800 pieces in here...the engine itself had like 90 pieces....
it was well well worth it...
The day we put the finishing touches on...Mei was running around with my jog bra around her neck...she found it in the dirty laundry and put it on...she was so proud of herself...she does this daily now...with bathing suit tops mostly because she can reach that drawer most easily:)

oh gosh - suddenly feel very behind because it looks like you've got back-to-back posts! yikers! love that you braved the legos - guess this is what is coming down the pike for me... better start improving my direction-reading skills! that little truck is stunning!
love that we're both lego moms. :) can you get over how intricate the components are -- just to hide it all at some point?? will be curious to hear how long it stays together. my boys build this huge kits and they are shells of themselves in a few days b/c they take them partially apart and mold them into something else. good for instruction following and creativity, i guess? :)
OH! How I LOVE this post. Seriously Kate this is the best. What a great idea for yall. This makes me want to get out Kate's too-old-for-her kit and do the same. My favorite photos are Aston gazing at you before tackle the instructions and then the next where you're like uhhh, what do I do now!? I feel like those things are good for your brain, like they prevent Alzheimer's or something. Oh and great shot of Aston hands/holding that creature. So glad you captured this "event." Kind of Easy Breezy post, right?
When I was BBsitting today I saw the masterpiece snugly tucked away in a transparent box and Mei kept touching it and looking up at me asking to, "Ope". I figured it must have been something special to be stored in a closed box so I kept diverting her attention - good thing - I wouldn't have been able to put 800 pcs back together again. Great job Kate and Asty!

wow, you are an amazing and patient mom. we are so behind on the legos. ella's at lego "boot" camp this week with miles--hoping to spark that interest in her. jack is begging to go to a star wars lego camp next summer that the polo ridge art teacher teaches through charlotte latin, so we need to get on it with him--seriously, aston could probably out-lego jack at this point (all because of the aforementioned amazing and patient mommy). :)
oh i love mommy and aston time. what a great activity to do together with just the two of you. i can't believe that was 800 pieces! jacob loves loves legos but we haven't graduated to the little pieces one yet. jacob is at this point obsessed with anything toy story.
Wow Aston and Mom...what a wonderful Lego creation...you both have the talent to be automotive engineers! I love the Lego people you made.
